This creature was a common pet for Delzines in the late 1900s due to it not needing much attention. It's saliva is highly acidic, even to itself, so evolution gave it acid-proof lips. It is capable of speech if taught properly. It can control whether or not it is producing saliva, usually to protect its friends or owner. Its eyestalk was considered a delicacy in several parts of the world it lives on, as it was highly nutritious at one point, then it eventually evolved a poison sack in its eye, killing millions before people stopped eating its eyestalk.
